The Accessible Music Project (AMPs)

Electric Leaves
Proximity sensitive leaves reading poetry
.
With 2017 open source technology, a wall can sing, a table becomes an electric guitar, a floor is a drum kit.

The project aims to assist in the engagement of music and it's beneficial uses.

Conventional instruments can be a challenge even for the able bodied. All those strings and keys, steep learning and budget curves. Open source software and hardware is where people freely share ideas across the planet to help develop good ideas. My "Accessible Music Project" web site is aimed at sharing those ideas and giving support in the use of assisted music technology.

The aim is to support music therapist, their students or services user and support carer involvement i.e. engage in music at any time for fun or therapy. The AMP's devices have the ability for data logging and could support research and funding applications with demonstrable outcomes.

Pressing or hitting multiple strings, keyboard keys or percussion instruments can be replaced with arcade game switches, alarm pressure pads, car reversing sensors, laser range finders, car door light switches, kitchen scales sensors, copper tape, conductive paint, motion sensors. Collectively called actuators that can trigger a range of sounds.
My latest design is the "Planxtone". This is proof of concept device. This uses capacitive proximity sensing to trigger twelve sounds. Either tonal or percussive. As it is constrained to twelve copper "keys" the key signature can be selected e.g. C, G, D etc.See also: Latest Projects. Now creating circle of 5ths to demonstrate a basic music concept.

Find AMPS on Facebook A long term aim I have is to get colleges involved in local accessible music projects.
