Medi-Midi

Narrative : If you have ever roller or ice skated, or if you were very lucky, skied, then you know you have to move your balance from left foot to right foot. This is called gait control. The Medi Mid device can use foot pressure pads (borrowed from alarm system technology) to detect the left to right shift. The Medi-MiDI gives acoustic reinforcement to the physical movement. Alternatively, something similar can be done with fingers .

This device is aimed at supporting objective outcomes by "data logging".

There is a software metronome built into the base station. A patient can be set a task. E.g. A stroke victim can start out with a single beat against the metronome. More complex patterns can be engaged via the finger drums. These can then be data logged via a linear study and exporting via Processing or Matlab. Code in PDF format.

Components / Devices Description / Hardware Functional Areas
AMPS Medi MIDI Front

Switches on the front panel control harmonic instruments (Guitar , Piano etc) and instrument sounds for the electronic metronome.

Only 4 notes, chords or percusion are avaible (via a selection of instruments.

The aim is to reinforce movement using sounds as a feedback mechanismn.

AMPS Medi MIDI

Ergonomics are essential. This device is easy to carry.

It's also switch on and go as it is self-contained in terms of electronics, amplifiers and speakers.

AMPS Medi MIDI Rear External actuators can be plugged on the rear panel.
Finger drums

Finger drum actuators.

From a therapeutic stance you could start with a simple one finger note or beat and then gradually move to more complex patterns.

These actions can be captured and put into a spreadsheet.

This then has the potential for showing objective rather than subjective progress over time.

Medi_MIDI_FloorDrums

Using pressure pads as actuators. Thereby creating a floor-based instruments e.g. drums or guitar.

Again, actions can be captured as above.

This is a therapeutic option. The Tri LED gives red, green, blue depending on wet her the subject is above or below the beat.

A built in metronome. . Beats for minutes and time signature. Below the beat (Red).

On the beat, Green.
Above the beat.
Well why not.
